New Kindergarten Age Requirements
Beginning in 2012-2013
KINDERGARTEN
With the passage of California legislation, The Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 (Senate Bill 1381) the entry –age for Kindergarten changes from 5 years of age by December 2nd to September 1st phased in over a three year period. Similarly, students entering the first grade must be 6 years of age under the timeline outlined below.

TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
Rescue Union School District will continue to offer the Junior Kindergarten program that fulfills the requirements of SB 1381 for districts to provide a Transitional Kindergarten for students whose admission to kindergarten will be delayed because of the new age criteria.

September 2 and December 2 becomes the new eligibility window for the 2014-2015 school year and each year thereafter. |
Students whose birthdays fall in the transition period, November 2 to December 2 for the 2012-2013 school year, will have priority registration for the program. Students who are eligible for Kindergarten may still be considered for placement on a space availability basis. Students who will turn 5 after December 2nd may be placed on a waiting list and admitted as they turn 5 depending on space availability.
